We don’t talk often enough about the nitty-gritty of money in the writing-publishing world. How does an author make a living just from writing? Can you? And if so, how does that work? Does your money come only from books, or other sources, too? Are there ways to shape your writing career so that full-time writing becomes an option?

I wasn’t always a full-time writer. When I started out, I was still a college professor and my primary-income came from my salary at the university where I taught. I actually didn’t even know that a person could get paid for writing something. The first time I was paid, it was accidental.
